About Me

Victoria Winata is an Indonesian, Naarm-based writer, artist, and theatremaker. She was born in Semarang, Central Java, where she lived until she moved to Bali at eight years old. After five years, Victoria moved with her family to Melbourne when she was 13 years old.

In her creative practice, Victoria interrogates questions surrounding multiculturalism, identity, migration, and trauma, among many others. Her work is contemplative and self-reflective as she often draws from her own background and personal experiences. In 2022, Victoria was awarded the La Mama Award, giving her the opportunity to stage her debut play 'Dear Sun, Love Joy' at La Mama Theatre in 2023. In the same year, she wrote and performed her monologue 'MAY 1998' at the Motley Bauhaus, receiving rave reviews.

Writing in both Indonesian and English, Victoria is passionate about the rich exchange of knowledge, stories, and experiences that can be drawn from cross-cultural collaborations.

Her theatrical works have been staged at Guild Theatre, La Mama, and the Motley Bauhaus.

Meanwhile, her writing has been published in Cordite, Voiceworks, Farrago Magazine, Screen Queens, and the Suburban Review.
